Bharat Literature Festival 2025

The Bharat Literature Festival 2025 - Season 4, held on March 26 at Miranda House, Delhi University, brought together distinguished personalities to discuss literature, culture, and social issues. Among the key speakers was Chairman, Managing Director, and Editor-in-Chief of Bharat Express Upendrra Rai, who shared his thoughts on "Women of the New Era - Dreams, Struggles, and Freedom."

During his speech, CMD Upendrra Rai posed a thought-provoking question: "Why do we still need institutions, policies, and discussions focused on women? Why do we keep talking about their struggles, dreams, and successes?" Answering his own query, he remarked, "Because we only talk about those who truly matter."

'"Men Calculate Even in Love"'

CMD Rai delved into the fundamental differences in how men and women approach love, stating, "A woman, by nature, loves with complete devotion. She gives everything without expecting anything in return. But men? Men calculate even in love. They always want to gain something in return. This deep sense of dedication in women is often misused by men, making them feel inferior. In this way, men have deceived women throughout history."

He also highlighted that women's rights were historically neglected even in developed nations, saying, "American women got voting rights much, only man had the right to vote." He reflected on India's past, noting how even great thinkers struggled with accepting women as equals.

'Personal Reflection on Women's Identity'

Sharing a personal anecdote, Rai spoke about his wife's decision not to use a surname. "When we had our first daughter, it was decided not to add surname in her name. I respected that choice without argument. Even when we had our son, we named him Saadyant Kaushal without a surname, despite relatives questioning the decision. My wife was surprised - she expected resistance. That's how deeply rooted the struggle for identity is in a woman's mind."

'"Give Women Wings, They Will Create Their Own Sky"'

CMD Rai concluded with a powerful message: "Women are still restricted from speaking and acting freely. They should be given wings to fly - because once they have them, they will create their own sky." His speech underscored the ongoing need for conversations about women's struggles and rights. His belief was clear: "Empower women, and society as a whole will progress."
