The Indian Development Foundation (IDF) organized the ‘Ignite STEM Passion empowering Science Teachers' program at the CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi. The event aimed at fostering innovation and inspiration in India's science education sector was graced by Bharat Express CMD and Editor-in-Chief, Upendrra Rai, as the chief guest. He was honored during the program for his significant contributions to media and science education advocacy.

In his address, Upendrra Rai emphasized the importance of fostering a deeper connection with audiences to inspire true change. While recognizing India's rich scientific heritage, he pointed out the irony of the country still relying on Western nations for advanced technologies. He highlighted references to ancient Indian texts, including the ‘Pushpak Viman' and ‘divine weapons' mentioned in the Mahabharata, to underscore India's historic scientific prowess. Rai argued that a long-standing belief system that regards material pursuits as illusions has hindered the nation's scientific innovation and progress.

Reviving India's Scientific Spirit: Buddha's Contributions

CMD Upendrra Rai further highlighted the scientific contributions of historical figures like Gautama Buddha, who pioneered practices such as acupuncture, acupressure, and naturopathy. These practices are now widely recognized in Japan and China. Additionally, he credited Buddha with developing techniques for incapacitating individuals without causing death, laying the foundation for martial arts such as judo and karate.

Redefining Intelligence and Education

CMD Upendrra Rai also discussed three levels of human existence, distinguishing between a life focused on survival, one of enlightenment where individuals realize their true potential, and the third, where most individuals remain stuck in stress and dissatisfaction. He urged individuals to strive for enlightenment and fulfillment.

Criticizing India's current education system, Editor in chief of Bharat Express Upendrra Rai argued that it fails to nurture true intelligence and creativity. He pointed out that memorization is often mistaken for intelligence, contrasting this with the forgetfulness of great minds like Albert Einstein. He stressed that intelligence stems from creativity, exploration, and discovery, not rote learning.

Scientific Thinking and Educational Reform

CMD Rai raised concerns about the lack of scientific awareness in India, citing the prevalence of superstitions and myths. He highlighted practices like seeking faith healers for snake bites, despite the majority of snakes being non-venomous, and stressed the importance of scientific education to dispel such myths.

In his closing remarks, Rai proposed reinstating the responsibility of awarding the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize to the CSIR, recalling a time when the award was prestigious. He also expressed his intent to write to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging this change to further boost India's innovation ecosystem.
