Alia Bhatt's latest commercial has become the talk of the town. The actress found herself on the receiving end of flak after she shared a new ad that she features in. Directed by Abhishek Varman, the actress plays a bride in a commercial for a bridal wear brand.
We see her character sitting in the mandap with the groom. "Am I a thing to be donated? Why only kanyadaan," she asks as she breaks the fourth wall to question why her family has always treated her as a temporary part of the family, despite loving her so much. Much to her surprise, the mother-in-law and father-in-law âgive away' their son as well.

While her legion of fans hailed the ad for portraying a modern outlook, it did not go down very well with the other section of the audience. The troll brigade attacked the actress in unimaginable ways, even referring to her father's statements from the past, and her personal life. "The very industry that objectifies women in their films, web series and reality shows is preaching about 'kanyamaan'. Wish they would practise what they preach then women would automatically get respect," read one of the many tweets targetting the ad.
Some Twitter users maintained that it was 'against Hindu sentiments'. Offended section of the audience are also demanding a ban on the brand.
For the uninitiated, Alia has been associated with the same brand for a couple of years now. Her first ad also went viral, and fans of #Ralia superimposed Ranbir Kapoor's face on the groom's picture.
