Varun Sood, one of the newest talents in the industry, began his journey with reality shows. After gaining fame from shows like Roadies and Splitsvilla, Varun decided to venture into the film industry. The actor, who has been a heartthrob for quite some time now, made his debut with 'Jug Jugg Jeeyo' and subsequently appeared in 'Karmma Calling' as a male lead alongside Raveena Tandon. In an exclusive chat with mid-day.com, Varun discussed his journey, his life, working with Raveena, and much more.
Speaking about his role as Raveena's son in 'Karmma Calling,' Varun said, "I think it was a surreal feeling because when you start off, you never imagine that you are going to work with one of the legends of the Bollywood industry. And I was very fortunate enough that after Jug Jugg Jeeyo, I got this and got to play a very typical, important character. Opposite, like in the same frame with the Raveena Tandon. Yeah. So, very lucky. Consider myself very lucky."
The actor who gained a lot of fame because of his performance, in reality, shows wishes not to do any more of them. The actor, in conversation with us, shared that he wants to be a full-time actor and wants to focus on his acting career. Varun stated, "No more reality shows. I have already done two more series after Karma Calling. Yeah. And both of them are on very big platforms. Yeah. And they'll be out this year. So this year is a year of releases for me. And that's how I've decided that I want to do this in my life. And that's how I've planned it out. So no more reality shows after this."
Varun, who has been a part of Roadies X2, Splitsvilla 9, and Ace of Space, shared how he manages to convince the audience as an actor and said, "I think I was away from the audience for two years. I wasn't on screen for the last two years. And I just wanted people to probably not remember me as a reality TV star or just be intrigued by the fact of what I am doing. Over the years, I really worked hard on myself. I took a lot of acting workshops, did numerous auditions, and I just wanted people to have an established idea in their minds. Many people were like, 'Big Boss, why aren't you doing this? Why aren't you doing that?' I don't want to do that. I want to be an actor. I made that decision very consciously, and that transition had to happen very evidently. It was my decision that I want to make an evident transition. I don't want to do any other work. I just want to work as an actor. So that's why I waited for the right opportunity."

Varun's 'Karmma Calling' character, Ahaan Kothari, is a very loving and caring person who faces betrayal. Speaking about it, the actor shared that he finds his onscreen self very relatable. Varun shared, "I think for me, Ahaan Kothari is a very relatable character. As far as Varun Sood is concerned, he matches a lot of character traits. But Ahaan Kothari's emotional quotient is very high. it is very evident in his actions that things affect him. But if I come to how I function in an emotional situation, I take it as a joke. So in the workshops that we had, to feel like Ahaan Kothari in terms of getting affected in terms of every emotion was very challenging for me. In terms of the character, for me, Ahaan Kothari. He is a very simple, loving character who loves his family. For him, his family is everything. And for him, everybody is a nice person. I think that trait is in me too. So I found it quite easy to play Ahaan Kothari in that matter."
For the unversed, Karmma Calling starring Raveena Tandon, Namrata Sheth, and Varun Sood was released on Disney plus Hotstar. It was released on the OTT platform on January 26, 2024.
