Varun Sood, one of the newest talents in the industry, began his journey with reality shows. After gaining fame from shows like Roadies and Splitsvilla, Varun decided to venture into the film industry. The actor, who has been a heartthrob for quite some time now, made his debut with 'Jug Jugg Jeeyo' and subsequently appeared in 'Karmma Calling' as a male lead alongside Raveena Tandon. In an exclusive chat with mid-day.com, Varun discussed his journey, his struggles, the social media world, and much more.
After making his debut with a cameo appearance in Dharma's 'Jug Jugg Jeeyo,' the actor decided to choose 'Karmma Calling' as his next project. While talking about his decision, he shed light on how being an outsider, he always looked for opportunities that usually don't come easily their way. Varun said, "I think, as an outsider, we look for opportunities because they don't come by very quickly for us. I had to go through a lot of workshops to eventually start cracking auditions. And, I think, after 'Jug Jugg Jeeyo,' I got signed by this agency called DCA, which is affiliated with Dharma. And it's just the body of work that they have and the management that they have, that got me a great audition like 'Karma Calling.' And, that's the opportunity that outsiders like me look forward to. And, I think, that's why I went ahead with it. Because I knew after 'Jug Jugg Jeeyo', I had more in me to show to people. And, I am just very glad that this opportunity came to me."
The actor further talked about how he never felt jealous of his contemporaries who have been doing more work in the industry as compared to him. Varun said that he never looks after other people's success; rather, he just concentrates on his journey.
"I think, everybody has their own journey. And, the people who are my age who are doing very well in the acting industry, who are kind of from the industry from before, I get why they get that part because of the belief. So, there is no jealousy or hatred. I just know for a fact that if I continue to work hard, then one day I will get an opportunity like this where I have to make the most of it. And, I didn't look after other people's success, as I was just concentrating on my journey and hoping it would happen soon. "

When asked how he manages to establish a balance between his personal life and his social media life, the actor shared, "I think for me, it's very simple in terms of keeping my private life very away from the media. And I very consciously kept my audience away. Whatever's happening in the personal life is personal. For me, I just wanted to showcase my work to people and wait for my work to come out so people could see me as an artist. And to this date, even though I've been going on holiday for the last two years, nobody knows what I'm doing, where I am, or if I'm taking a vacation. I prefer to keep that aspect of my life private because, in reality, living in the public eye exposes you a little too much, more than you'd like. Therefore, I've now decided to keep my personal life private. I want to distance myself from that and would rather have people see and appreciate me solely for my work.."
While concluding the chat, Varun shared his wish to work on a Karan Johar film and said, "If I have to pick my personal favourite, I would love to do a Karan Johar film. That's the dream."
For the unversed, 'Karmma Calling,' starring Raveena Tandon, Namrata Sheth, and Varun Sood, was released on Disney plus Hotstar. It was released on the OTT platform on January 26, 2024.
