Choreographer Kruti Mahesh, who garnered praise for her work in the Alia Bhatt starrer âGangubai Kathiawadi,' speaks to mid-day.com, about starting out as a reality show contestant, winning a National award, her advice for other women choreographers and more.
How do you ensure you stay grounded despite seeing success and receiving a National award early in life?
Success is a byproduct of consistency and honesty. I choose to be consistent and honest with my art. I worship my work place. My family and Friends are always there to keep me grounded, in case I get carried away. The National award is the highest form of appreciation for an artiste and it only makes me strive harder to keep getting this appreciation for my contribution to Indian Cinema and more.
Despite having the talent did you ever doubt yourself and whether you would achieve your dreams?
Ofcourse I have had doubts but I also believe that whatever is destined for me shall always finds its way to me. When it does I want to be ready to give it my all. I have stopped planning my life. I go with the flow and enjoy the process.
How does it feel when a task master like Sanjay Leela Bhansali praises your work?
It is an Interstellar Feeling.

If there is one advice you would give other women choreographers who are just starting out what would it be?
You are the best and never give up. Believe in yourself and pick yourself up, because you are the only one who can make it happen.
What are the best compliments you recieved for your songs in âGangubai Kathiwadi?'
I have been receiving a lot of love and appreciation for my work on Gangubai. It's been very humbling. My Sister and Mom said that they are very proud and happy and knew that this was just the beginning. Lots of people who have been following my journey since DID (Dance India Dance) have been very happy for me and have sent a whole lot of love and praises my way.
