Irrfan Khan made his film debut with a small role in Mira Nair's 'Salaam Bombay!' in 1988. In his career spanning over 30 years, Irrfan gave several memorable performances and earned a name for himself in Indian cinema and also international cinema. The actor passed away in 2020 after battling neuroendocrine cancer for two years. He left behind him a legacy that will be looked upon by generations of artistes to follow.
Today, on his death anniversary, we look at the international titles through which Irrfan Khan left a mark with his performance.
Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
Irrfan Khan played the role of a police inspector in the Oscar-winning film. The 2008 British drama film was directed by Danny Boyle and was one of the most successful films of the year. Talking about the actor, Boyle had said, "He has an instinctive way of finding the 'moral centre' of any character, so that in Slumdog, we believe the policeman might actually conclude that Jamal is innocent." Boyle compared him to an athlete who can execute the same move perfectly over and over. "It's beautiful to watch".

New York, I Love You (2008)
This is a 2008 American romantic comedy-drama anthology film consisting of eleven short films made by 11 different directors. The film stars an ensemble cast, among them Bradley Cooper, Shia LaBeouf, Natalie Portman, Anton Yelchin, Hayden Christensen, Orlando Bloom, Irrfan Khan, Rachel Bilson, Chris Cooper, Andy GarcÃa, Christina Ricci, John Hurt, Cloris Leachman, Robin Wright, Julie Christie, Maggie Q, Ethan Hawke, James Caan, Shu Qi, and Eli Wallach.
Irrfan Khan played the Gujarati diamond merchant Mansukhbhai in the Mira Nair-directed segment opposite Natalie Portman.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
In what can be termed as his first superhero film, Irrfan played the role of Dr. Rajit Ratha in this Marvel film headlined by Andrew Garfield. Khan said he was offered the role after appearing in the TV drama series 'In Treatment'. He played the role of an executive at Oscorp.

In Treatment (Season 3, 2010)
This is an American drama television series for HBO based on the Israeli series 'BeTipul'. The series is about a psychotherapist, Dr. Paul Weston, and his weekly sessions with patients, as well as those with his own therapist at the end of the week. Irrfan featured in season 3 of the show as Sunil, a widower in his 50s. His character moves to the USA from Kolkata after his wife's death to live with his son and daughter-in-law. Sunil talks to Dr. Paul even though seeking psycotherapy is looked down in his culture.

Life of Pi (2012)
Irrfan Khan plays the role of the adult 'Pi' in the critically acclaimed film 'Life of Pi' directed by Ang Lee. The actor gives one of his best and intense performance in this 2012 inspirational drama. His dialogues and his performance is still remembered by the audience even a decade after the release of the film.

Irrfan Khan appeared in this popular film in the role of the owner of Jurrasic World, Simon Masrani.
