In Pic: Shahid Kapoor and Raja Krishna Menon
War drama Pippa is Raja Krishna Menon's first-ever collaboration with Ishaan Khattar, but this is not Menon's first collaboration with the latter's family. Back in 2018, there were reports that the director would collaborate with Shahid Kapoor for the biopic of former boxing champion and Asian Games gold medallist Dingko Singh. A year later, Menon stated in an interview that the writing of the film had begun, but then the project got delayed due to Shahid and Menon's prior commitments. Now, the director has finally revealed that the movie is not getting made.
In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Menon shared, "That film has been put on the backburner. That was a boxing film we were talking about. There was a time for it. Sometimes, you need to move on." He further added, "Having said that, Shahid is a very dear of mine. Shahid, Ishaan and I've spent a lot of time together. We keep talking about different stuff and ideas".
He further shared that he doesn't want to rush into things and wants to wait for the right script and the right character for his collaboration with Shahid. "Shahid and I speak about these ideas a lot but as Ishaan says - if I were to find a subject, it has to do justice to so many things including the character Shahid needs to play. There are bigger factors at play in terms of the kind of the story we need to tell. Hopefully, we'll find a script that will be great. We're friends and I've realised that I just really want to make films with friends," he elaborates.
As for its latest release, 'Pippa' dropped on Amazon Prime Video on November 10. However, earlier this year, there were reports that the film would have a theatrical release. Reacting to the change in the plan, Menon shared that the reach of Amazon is larger, and releasing the film on the OTT platform will increase its reach. 'Pippa' stars Ishaan Khattar alongside Mrunal Thakur.
