Anushka Sharma with husband Virat Kohli
Their social media news feeds is testimony that Anushka Sharma and her cricketer-husband Virat Kohli are lovers of stray animals. Apart from using their social media to promote the cause of animal welfare, the duo is also working with their NGO to deal with issues concerning them. The Virat Kohli Foundation, which set up two animal shelters in Mumbai, was a brainchild of the cricketer who was inspired by Sharma. Apart from that, they lent a helping hand to the I Love Mumbai Foundation, which has been feeding strays in Mumbai.
Referring to a social media video of the power couple in which they offer help to the foundation, Rahul N Kanal, its president, and Yuva Sena leader, says, "Virat and Anushka posted the video from London and even asked the Virat Kohli Foundation's team to be in touch [with us]. The video went viral, crossing five million views. In fact, in the aftermath, queries [about our foundation] have been made from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, with people expressing their desire to conduct similar feeding drives." Those willing to follow in their footsteps, Kanal says, have been inquiring about the kind of food they should feed strays, and why salt and sugar must be avoided.
Expressing his gratitude to Kohli, Kanal adds, "Virat has also given me his team manager's number in case I need help. The couple has been silently supporting us. They have continuously supported many feeders and animal-friendly foundations across India."
