Ashish Sonkar
âActing is in my blood' is actor Ashish Sonkar's opening line. And you know that its not a tall claim as he continues, "School and college was all about taking part in dramas and getting due recognition from teachers, family and friends. That's when I realised that I could only be an actor and nothing else. While I come from a business family, there was absolutely no pressure to join the family business. My family has always been a huge support in whatever I wanted to do."
At the young age of 15, he was picked up for modelling for Horlicks. That was indeed the turning point in his career courtesy the hoardings all over Mumbai with his face plastered on it. He was also adjudged the 2nd winner of the show and represented the Mumbai model. And as the cliché goes, he never had to look back.
While keeping himself busy with theatre and auditions, he had become a regular face on the ramp and endorsements scene also. "I landed a 6 months contract with Raymonds. Zara too offered me a catalogue for 4 months." Advertisements for t-shirt brands also featured him.
The next logical step was acting. After innumerable auditions, he received a call for a short film by director Rajkumar Jhangare who was searching for a fresh face. Many more short films followed. He also went on to sign his first TV show in 2019 titled Lal Rekha with Kamalshree Films Pvt Ltd where he played the brother of the lead. There are several video albums too featuring him that are on the verge of releasing.
News has it that Ashish Sonkar has also signed a web series with Zee5 and Alt Balaji.
Quiz the young talent about his favourite actors who are also a huge inspiration to him, and he is quick to reply, "Akshay Kumar for his acting abilities and his perfectionist streak. I also like Shahid Kapur for his dancing abilities.
However, what remains a special memory for him is his interaction with King Khan. He says, " I shot for a Dish TV ad with Shah Rukh Khan. He is a really down to earth person. Just watching him helped me learn a lot as an actor."
As an actor he feels he would be happy to try all genres of movies. But he is open to improving as far as his body is concerned and get a mature look for his future stint as an actor. He says, "Right now, since I am just 22, I may get chocolate boy roles. But I want to get a mature look to do all kinds of roles in future."
For his age, he is all set to work with the right kind of makers, "I want to work in realistic cinema - the kind Anurag Kashyap and Bhansali productions make. I want to do good content films like Bareily ki Barfi and movies with Ashwini Iyer Tiwari who I consider a fab maker."
