Maestro Zubin Mehta led the Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI) for a concert at Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, NCPA, on Sunday, February 9. The performance was a part of SOI's Spring 2025 Season, which includes five shows.

The Opera Gala concert included excerpts from two renowned operas – ‘Carmen’ by French composer Georges Bizet and ‘La Traviata’ by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi.

A 200-member ensemble of SOI performed on stage. The concert also featured the Living Voices Choir, Mumbai, and The Singing Tree Choir (children’s choir) of the Mehli Mehta Music Foundation.

The performance was studded with the voices of four renowned opera singers – Roberta Mantegna (soprano), Olesya Petrova (mezzo-soprano), Luciano Ganci (tenor) and George Petean (baritone).

Mehta opened the SOI's Spring 2025 Season on January 25, sharing the stage with classical pianist Alexander Gadjiev. The second concert featured Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4.

The season will end with conductor Sir Mark Elder leading the SOI with Beethoven’s Eroica symphony.
