Deciding question

“What advice would you give to young women watching on how to deal with the pressures they face today?"

Miss Universe 2021 winner/ Country

Harnaaz Sandhu, India

Winning answer given by Harnaaz Sandhu:

Well, I think the biggest pressure the youth of today is facing is to believe in themselves. To know that you are unique and that’s what makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourself with others, and let's talk about more important things happening worldwide. I think this is what you need to understand. Come out, speak for yourself, because you are the leader of your life. You are the voice of your own. I believed in myself, and that's why I'm standing here today. Thank you."

Andrea Meza (Mexico)

Winning answer given by Andrea Meza (Mexico)

"I believe there is not a perfect way to handle this hard situation such as COVID-19. However, I believe that, what I would have done was create the lockdown even before everything was that big. Because we lost so many lives and we cannot afford that. We have to take care of our people. That's why I would have taken care of them since the beginning."

"Name something over the course of your life that you failed at, and tell us what you learned from that experience?”

Miss Universe 2016 winner

Iris Mittenaere (France)

Winning answer given by Iris Mittenaere (France)

"I've failed several times in my life. So, I thought that I failed the first time that I went out on a casting, because my name wasn't on the list. And, the very next day, I found that I was in a news book. So, I think that when you fail, you have to be elevated and you have to try again and keep going. If tonight, I'm not one of the winners, I will still have the great honor of being one of the 3 finalists. So, I think that I have failed before, but I think this is a great first opportunity."

''What quality in yourself are you most proud of and how will make you apply that quality to your time as Miss Universe?''

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters (South Africa)

Winning answer given by Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters (South Africa)

As a Miss Universe, you have to be confident in who you are, as an individual. And Miss Universe is a woman that has overcome many fears, and by that, she is able to help other women to overcome their fears. She is a woman that nothing is ever too much to ask for and I think that is exactly who I am. Thank You!”.

“What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your life and how will you apply it to your time as Miss Universe?”

Catriona Gray (Philippines)

Winning answer given by Catriona Gray (Philippines)

I work a lot in the slums of Tondo, Manila and the life there is very poor and it's very sad. And I have always taught myself to look for the beauty in it; to look in the beauty in the faces of the children and to be grateful. And I will bring this aspect as a Miss Universe, to see situations with a silver lining. And to assess where I could give something; where I could provide something as a spokesperson. And this, I think, if I can teach people to be grateful, we can have an amazing world where negativity could not grow and foster, and children will have smiles on their faces."

What is the most important thing that we should be teaching young girls today?

Miss Universe 2019 winner/ country

Zozibini Tunzi (South Africa)

Winning answer given by Zozibini Tunzi (South Africa)

The most important thing we should be teaching young girls is leadership. It’s something that has been lacking in young girls and women for a very long time, not because we don’t want to, but because of what society has labelled women to be. I think we are the most powerful beings in the world and that we should be given every opportunity. That is what we should be teaching these young girls to take up space. Nothing is important than taking up space in the society and cementing yourself.
