Namita Gupta insists she is proud of her fixation with the colour

I still drool over all the pink lace, strawberry, candy, girls in white dresses with pink satin sashes, rose wine and pink marshmallows. My friends call me pink panther. Some call me a Barbie doll.
Yes, I concede I still haven't gotten over my pink passion. I own a pink cell phone, a pink i-pod, loads of pink shoes, pink dresses, pink watches, pink purses, even pink suitcases and yes, a pink Cadillac too (well, it's just an ordinary pink car, but I choose to call it a pink cadillac). The next on my wish list is a pink laptop. I know, I know, it might sound quite frivolous for someone my age, considering my daughter, who just turned 10, hates the colour.u00a0u00a0
With Valentine's Day round the corner, the colour holds even more essence. Isn't it such a happy colour? Doesn't the colour bring a certain radiance to the wearer? I just can't help it. No matter hard I try, whenever I go out shopping, I end up stopping at something pink. It's not intentional, it just happens. In 2008, when fashion designers declared pink as the colour of the season, I was thrilled. The colour suddenly began sporting very hip names like fuchsia, hot pink, shocking pink...u00a0u00a0u00a0
I'm not really trying to justify anything here, but would like to state some facts on the colour.
One of the most appreciated artists of the 20th century, Pablo Picasso, went through a pink phase toou2013one where he used a lot of orange and pink in his works. It's believed to have marked a happy phase in his life. His Rose period (1904-1906) was when he churned out his most expensive works (one was auctioned for $104,168,000 at a Sotheby's auction).
Actually, before World War II, men wore pink and women wore blue. Between 1920 and 1940, pink was deemed a masculine colour because of its similarities to red, while blue was deemed feminine as it exuded serenity. The reversal in gender associations came after the Second World War.u00a0
My fixation with the colour is just a phase and I know I might outgrow it soon. So be it. Flaunt pink while the sun shines! On second thoughts, I think I would love to sport a pink T even in my sixties. And why should age be a deterrent anyway?
