The Asda study found a north-south divide with mince and onion pie tops in Scotland, and steak and kidney the number one choice south of the border.
But new gourmet pies such as minted lamb, chicken balti and spinach and leek have also been a hit.
Flaky summer weather puffed up sales of the filled pastries by 75 percent over the year.
"With the nights drawing in, we naturally seek comfort in indulgent foods that make us feel cosy and warm," the Mirror quoted Asda pie expert Emma Ainley as saying.
