Mother who jumped from her building with her three children is recovering
Mother who jumped from her building with her three children is recoveringIt's been two weeks since Sunita Yadav, a 28-year-old housewife, allegedly jumped from the fourth floor terrace of her building along with her three children. Yadav, who lives in the Sita Smruti Building in Mira Road (East), seems to be making a quick recovery.
Recuperating in ICU ward number 13 of Nanavati Hospital, Vile Parle (W), Sunita was brought in earlier with multiple fractures in her limbs and spine, with doctors having little or no hope of her recovery.
Sunita had apparently had a fight with her mother-in-law and husband over buying an LPG cylinder and in a fit of rage, gathered her children Tisha, 4, Nisha, 2, and one-year-old Abhishek, tied them to her 'sari pallu' and jumped from the terrace.
The incident claimed the life of four-year-old Tisha, while the other two children are said to be fighting for their life.
Speaking to Sunday MiD DAY, a badly wounded Sunita, appeared to be complete denial about what had happened to her children. She did say that although the injuries hurt, she was feeling better.
"Pehele jyada dard tha, ab sab pehele se bahut theek hai," she murmured, when we enquired after her well-being.
Sunita's uncle Asaram, who has come down from Benaras, claimed that the family had no idea why Sunita took such a drastic step. "We just want her to recover and all other things can be sorted out later," he said, in chaste Hindi.
He added that the family was deliberately avoiding Sunita's questions about her children. "We do not want her to go into depression, which can hamper her recovery process," said Asaram.
Police sub inspector, Rajendra Bhosle, of Santa Cruz Police Station, who recorded Sunita's statement, stated that the police had questioned the entire family, including the husband and in laws, who own two shops, one at Bhayandar and another at Shanti Nagar in Mira Road.
"Further investigations will be carried out by Mira Road police, but she seemed to have done this in extreme anger. Apparently she now does not wish to hold anyone responsible."
Investigating officer P D Jadhav, of Mira Road Police station, said that Sunita's husband Shiv Prasad Yadav and his family had first said it was an accidental fall, but eventually blurted out the actual story.
Medical superintendent Dr Ashok Hatolkar, Nanavati Hospital, said Sunita's health was being monitored round the clock. "Surviving a ninety-foot fall is not a joke. Though it is too early to say if Sunita will recover hundred per cent, she seems to be doing fine and is able to communicate with family and staff".
