After examining the bloated corpse, the police claim that she may have been murdered on June 20.

Gold jewellery and cash amounting to nearly Rs 50,000 was also missing from her residence.

Musa Shaikh, assistant commissioner of police, Charkop, said, "We received complaints from the neighbours about a foul smell emitting from Narvekar's house. When we broke in, we found her dead body."

When the neighbours rang her door bell and did not receive any response, they also called her son Mahesh, who lives in Kandivli (E).

The police is yet to ascertain the motive behind the brutal murder.
