One person died, while 23 others were injured after a major fire broke out at Shastri Nagar, Bandra, on Monday afternoon.
It took 12 fire engines, seven water tankers and over three hours to douse the fire.
According to Chief Fire Officer P D Karguppikar, out of the 23 injured, of only one sustained minor burn, the remaning 22 were injured in the stampede when they tried to escape from the spot.
"A middle-aged man went into shock after seeing fire and smoke all over and died due to heart attack," he said.

Eleven injured are presently being treated at the Bhabha Hospital in Bandra.
"The exact cause of fire is yet to be investigated," Karguppikar told MiD DAY. Bandra police has registered a case of accidental death under Section 174 of CrPC. The body of the deceased has been seen to Cooper Hospital for autopsy.
