Students from non-state board schools who will be vying for admission to First Year Junior College (FYJC) are struggling with the Common Entrance Test. Not only do they have a few new topics to study now for the CET as their curriculum is different from the State Board, they are also finding it difficult to decide whether to register for it since their Std X result is still pending.
"If I knew my Std X score, I could at least take the risk of not registering for CET as the Std X score would give me an idea if I can get admission to colleges I prefer. But now without knowing it, I am bound to register for CET with hope of getting the college I want," said Karan Shah, a student from an ICSE school in Borivli.
While non-state board students are confused, the technical lag on the registration website is rather handy for them as it allows them more time to decide. The registration for CET has been halted for now as the state board fixes the glitches.
"There are topics under sections such as Science, languages and Social Science which are not covered by the non-state board in Std X," said Dhananjay Junnarkar, a parent of an Std X student from an ICSE school. Junnarkar has written to School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad on the issue.
