India is celebrating Ram Navami with great fervour. Devotees thronged Lord Ram's temples across the country and such processions were seen in various stated. In Nashik, where Lord Ram spent some years of his 14-year exile, thousands of devotees took part in rituals at the revered Shree Kalaram Temple in Panchavati area
Devotees also flocked to offer prayers at Shree Ram Mandir in Mumbai's Wadala on the occasion of Ram Navami
Meanwhile, the police have stepped up security to prevent any untoward incident. All units of the Maharashtra Police have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent any law and order incidents
An officer said security will be stepped up in areas that had witnessed communal tensions last year during the processions. The police will also deploy drones for surveillance in sensitive zones
Sources said the police had noted attempts by some organisers to alter the traditional Ram Navami procession routes, and local police stations have been directed to exercise caution
More than 500 police personnel and senior officials are also manning the roads for the Ram Navami rally in the western suburb of Malwani on Sunday
