Police launch massive hunt for absconding accused
Raghu, a city goon, allegedly raped Vidya Laxmi (60) on January 31 even as her ailing husband looked on helplessly.
The victim had migrated to the city with her husband Muthu and son, Vediyappa from Singarpet, Tamil Nadu in search of a job. Vediyappa shifted to other part of the city with his wife leaving the couple behind. The couple worked as labourers and stayed in a rented shed at Virat Nagar.
The incident occurred around 1 am, when Raghu barged into the shed asking for drinking water. After quenching his thirst, Raghu asked Muthu for a matchbox and lit a cigarette. He thenu00a0 pulled out a knife and tied up Muthu's hands and legs. He stuffed Muthu's mouth with a cloth. Meanwhile, Raghu asked Laxmi to remove her clothes.
"I requested him to spare me and I am like his mother, but he was behaving like an animal. He just pounced on me and tore off my clothes" Laxmi told the police. "He gagged my mouth while raping me while Muthu was lying like a bundle in the corner of the shed," she added. Raghu also attacked her, resulting in nail and bite marks all over her body.
Raghu later threatened to kill the couple if they informed the police. "We did not know what to do and decided to go back to our hometown. While Muthu was packing the bags, I slipped out of the house around 5.30 am and narrated the incident to my neighbours," said Laxmi.
"They sympathised and assured to help me in complaining to the authorities. But Muthu was adamant and forced me to go with him," added Laxmi. The couple left the city that very day, but for Laxmi the nightmare continued to haunt her. Determined to get Raghu punished, she convinced Muthu to return. Back here on Tuesday, the she with her neighbours' help filed a complaint. Madiwala inspector Purushotham ML has filed a case of rape against Raghu and launched a massive search for him.
