Dr Suprabhat Majumder, Head of Library, said: "There has always been a demand for a round the clock open reading room in the university. Finally, a proposal in this regard has been made in written and it will be made available soon. Till the time a new library is constructed, the Central Reference Library (CRL) at the Faculty of Arts would be opened 24X7 once the proposal is approved."
A 24-hour-open library is an important requisite for a modern day central university. This would promote the reading culture in the campus providing the students with conducive environment for study.
Years back the DUSU reading room used to be thronged by students, teachers and faculty members for reading which is history now. However rumors in the campus suggest that in some time the DUSU reading room might be again transformed into a full-fledged 24X7 library.
"The reading room of DUSU used to be a good place for book lovers. Many PhD students used to come here and research on their subjects. It is no longer so," said Jitender Chaudhary, president, DUSU.
