Who says retirement is one of the most boring phases of a person's life? If one attended the recently concluded Celebrating Age Expo, one would certainly know otherwise. Celebrating Age, now in its third year, is an annual event conducted to promote a healthier and active lifestyle, post retirement. The expo, held from September 6-8 at Urban Haat in CBD Belapur, is the brainchild of Vision India, a market analysis company that looks into emerging markets, and brings relevant products and services to the consumers of these markets.
The main aim of the expo was to promote amongst retired people the feeling that retirement does not mean a dull life. It demonstrated to people how many things can be accomplished, with the amount of free time at hand. "Retirement is like another phase of life altogether, and one has to start from scratch in this new phase. The Celebrating Age expo showed retired people how they could live a healthy and active life after retirement, and make the most out of life," said Janaki Raman, founder of Vision India.
Different sessions showed the audience the various things they could do in the course of their day. Sessions were conducted on Reiki, yoga and Laughter Yoga. The Lion's Club of Navi Mumbai, and D Y Patil College-Nerul also supported the event. D Y Patil also conducted a medical camp on September 7 and 8.
Ramesh Shinde, who attended on two days, said, "This is a new initiative in the Navi Mumbai area, and there is a lot of room for improvement. The sessions on yoga and laughter were very helpful and I will try to make it a point to practice them."
There were several stalls for various products and services aimed at retired people. These included products such as clothing, home decor, insurance and many more. The Celebrating Age Expo is to take place in five other cities, and Raman hopes to conduct a special Expo for the citizens of Mumbai.
