Accused took to robbery after suffering betting losses, nabbed with loot in south Delhi

Parveen Kumar alias Batti (23) was not new to the crime scene. He had gone on a sabbatical with several cases pending against him. But Batti was forced to make a comeback after incurring heavy losses while betting on IPL games. On top of that he had recently married and perhaps like the good husband he wanted to put food on the table. But his new stint was short-lived.

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested Parveen along with his accomplice Abhimanyu alias Biru when they had come to the Lodhi Colony area of south Delhi to dispose off some stolen passports and credit cards. "There were instances recently of pan cards, passports etc being stolen after houses being burgled in the Trans Yamuna area. Our team laid a trap and arrested the two on Wednesday," said HGS Dhaliwal, DCP (South).

Four passports and several debit and credit cards were recovered from their possession.
During interrogations, it was revealed that Parveen had been involved in several auto thefts in the past. During the last IPL season he bet large sums of money. But luck didn't favour him and he lost around 3 lakh rupees. Last December he had also married a girl who was working in an airhostess academy, without the consent of her parents.

"Praveenu00a0 would use the stolen plastic money to purchase expensive things, dresses for his wife and sell the passports affixed with visas to make a quick buck. He had several contacts to sell the passports as they fetch good money," said a police official.u00a0u00a0u00a0
