Ailing will get confirmed berthsIn a compassionate gesture, the Railway Ministry on Wednesday decided to provide confirmed tickets to cancer patients whenever they go for a check-up by train.
The ministry has issued instructions to all zonal offices to provide accommodation in trains to cancer patients and their attendants travelling on concessional tickets issued in return for a concession certificate.
Railways provide 75 per cent concession in Second Class, Sleeper Class, Chair Car and III tier AC and 50 per cent in Second AC and First AC for cancer patients travelling alone or with an escort on being called by recognised hospitals for treatment. They can also avail the same facility on their return journey.
The patient must have a certificate in a prescribed form issued by the officer-in-charge of the concerned recognised hospital while availing this concession.
