Now, Sassoon asks CCTV cam donor to do installation also

Two months have passed since Bappusaheb Bhosale, founder and president of Dalit Panther of India, donated three CCTV cameras to the Sassoon General Hospital on May 3. The hospital, claiming paucity of funds, has now asked Bhosale to install the cameras.

At the same time it is learnt that the hospital spent quite a bit on renovation work recently. Sources said around Rs 70 lakh had been spent on the resident doctors' canteen on the second floor of the main building and on the dean's office.

"These things are not decided at local level. Higher government authorities take the call and sanction such plans. The amount spent has been allotted by Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER). We have been demanding 50 CCTV cameras from the government for more than a year now, but to no avail," Medical Superintendent of Sassoon Dr DG Kulkarni said.

DMER chief Dr Pravin Shingare denied receiving any letter from Sassoon regarding CCTVs. "The three cameras donated couldn't be installed because no one came forward to give quotations. So we asked Bappu Bhosale to install the cameras at three important spots - outside the superintendent's office, OPD and MRI ward entrances. We had sent a letter to him 15 days ago, requesting him to do the needful," Dr Kulkarni said.

Confirming that he had received the letter four days ago, Bhosale said he would be installing the cameras on Friday. "But my question is, who will ensure that the cameras are serving their purpose after they are installed? If they can't install them, how will they operate them? Who will pay for the monitor, operating room and the operator? Will I have to take care of that too?" Bhosale said.u00a0
