Security staff at Adarsh struggle to keep afloat

Even as the investigations in the Adarsh scam go deeper with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) naming former CM Ashok Chavan, there is a group of people ruing the investigations altogether - the security personnel deployed at the building.

According to them, ever since the CBI seized the bank accounts of the building, they haven't received their salaries. R K Sahu, a retired Indian Navy personnel, is among the three staffers, who were hired directly by Adarsh society. The society has also hired a different private security firm in addition to the three guards.

When asked how they manage to meet daily expenses, a guard said, "We received a salary of around Rs 5,000. But for the last six months or so, we have been having a tough time, as we haven't been receiving our salaries. However, we are sure we will get our salaries soon."

Building woes
Another guard added, "Since the society's accounts have been seized, we haven't received our pay. Also, the building has no electricity or water supply." He added that the situation grew worsens in the monsoons when the building sprung some leaks and the half-painted building has begun to peel.

A guard, pointing to the half built security cabin at the building entrance, said, "Almost all the interior and exterior construction and painting of building work stopped soon after the case was registered. Construction material and water pumps were seen lying unattended inside the building premises." When asked if any of the Adarsh occupants would visit the building, the guards on duty replied in affirmative, stating that some members would visit sometimes.u00a0
