A two-minute silence was observed in Gandhi’s memory as a mark of respect. Modi, in a post on X, stated that Gandhi’s ideals continue to inspire the vision of a developed India.
Rahul Gandhi described Mahatma Gandhi as the soul of India, whose principles of truth, non-violence, and fearlessness resonate across the world. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar highlighted Gandhi’s supreme sacrifice, which remains etched in the nation’s collective memory.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge emphasised the enduring relevance of Gandhi’s principles of truth, non-violence, and religious harmony. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute, acknowledging Gandhi’s role in shaping India’s path to independence.
India observes Martyrs' Day every 30th January to commemorate Gandhi’s contribution to the freedom struggle. On this day in 1948, Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse at Gandhi Smriti, just months after India gained independence.
The solemn occasion saw leaders from across the political spectrum uniting in remembrance of Gandhi’s legacy. His timeless ideals continue to serve as a guiding force for the nation, influencing generations to uphold truth and justice.
