One security person was killed and several others injured today when a suicide car bomber struck at a check post in Pakistan's troubled northwestern Swat valley.
The suicide attacker rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into a building near the check post located about two kilometres from Mingora, the main city in Swat district of the North West Frontier Province.
There was no official word on the incident though TV channels reported that a security personnel was killed and several others were injured in the attack. The powerful blast in Fiza Ghat area damaged several nearby buildings.
Troops cordoned off the area and prevented journalists from going to the site of the blast. The local Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
Most parts of Swat valley, located 160 km from Islamabad, are now controlled by local Taliban militants led by radical cleric Maulana Fazlullah.
The Taliban banned girls' education from January 15 and have directed men to wear Muslim skull caps and to stop shaving from January 25.
