Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Sharat Sabharwal on Saturday met Interior Minister Rehman Malik here and discussed the status of the probe into the Mumbai terror attacks.

The Indian envoy, who had sought the meeting with Malik, was given an update on the Pakistani probe into the 26/11 strikes that killed more than 180 people. The meeting comes in the backdrop of the release of LeT founder and JuD chief Hafeez Mohammed Saeed, suspected to be behind the Mumbai attacks, from detention following a court order.

The talks between Malik and Sabharwal comes just three days ahead of a meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on the sidelines of BRIC Summit in Russia.

Immediately after Saeed was released, India had voiced its disappointment, saying it raises serious doubts over Pakistan's sincerity in acting with determination against terrorist groups and individuals operating from its territory.

Saeed was put under house arrest on December 11 last year after the UN Security Council banned JUD, declaring it a front for Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is blamed by India for the November 26 Mumbai attacks.

Five LeT activists, including Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and Zarar Shah, are currently being tried by an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi for alleged involvement in the Mumbai attacks.
