World No 3 Andy Murray could spring a Shanghai surprise if he withdraws from next week's tennis Masters after reports that his recent wrist injury is still posing a fitness problem.
The Scot had been due to take his decision on flying to China after pulling out of this week's Japan Open with the complaint. But reports in Britain indicate that his mind has yet to be made up, with the choice to be made later in the week.
Murray re-aggravated the wrist during last month's British European zonal loss to Poland in the Davis Cup, where he won both of his singles rubbers.
Murray's chances of flying to China have been rated as 50-50 by his management.

British media have reported that their man was not feeling comfortable with his wrist when he gave it a light test last weekend.
Murray has not played on the ATP since losing in the US Open third round in straight sets to Marin Cilic.
Shanghai is already missing Roger Federer as the No 1 skips the October Asian swing in order to rest.
The remainder of the major names are expected to line up, including No 2 Rafael Nadal, playing this week as top seed in Beijing after his own injury return from an abdominal strain.
