After nearly 48 hours of intense efforts, rescuers recovered a body from the mine on January 8. An eyewitness, a former miner whose brother was among those trapped, described the chaotic scene. The incident reportedly happened around 7 a.m., when flooding trapped at least nine miners inside the coal mine. The flooding is suspected to have been caused by the opening of an underground water channel. Following the incident, rescue operations were launched immediately.
