NGO Groups: Qatar Migrant Workers Reforms Are “Landmark”

Qatar Migrant Workers

Leading NGO groups are delighted with the new Labour reforms. They are appreciating the efforts made by Qatar as each reform has got something for the protection of worker rights. The enforcement of the law on minimum wage Law no 17 of 2020 will protect the rights of many migrant workers.

The minimum wage law requires that the worker must get 1,000 QAR as their salary. All the workers from Nepal, India, and Bangladesh cannot hold their excitement. They get food and accommodation, this is why it has become easy for them to save some money.

According to a claim from the opposition party, 6,500 migrant workers have died. However, this is wrong as the number of workers who have previously died is only 20. Lebanese Council to Resist Violence against Women (LECORVAW) and other NGOs are appreciating that Qatar is introducing women and human rights.

The Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry facilitates internal Labour mobility

MADLSA and the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry facilitate internal Labour mobility are facilitating internal labor mobility. Lebanon Institute for Democracy and Human Rights (LIFE) is praising the efforts made by Qatar’s commerce and industry.

Western media claims Qatar is doing all this to keep its image for holding the World Cup event. However, this is not true as their Government is working on the Labour reforms for a few years now. The Government of Qatar claims that the reforms they are introducing will go beyond the world cup too.

A separate media outlet is introduced for the migrant workers. They can post for some vacancies online according to their skillset. The program is introduced by MADLSA as they will offer hospitality and security for the workers in many ways.

The data coming from the western media don’t have any facts as such. They reveal that 5,972 workers have died from 2011 to 2020. However, the original death toll is only 20. In the last few years, Qatar is trying to keep up with the safety and security of workers. Intersection Association for Rights and Freedoms – Tunisia hails Qatar for putting up with dedication.

Non-Discrimination And Combating Violence & Harassment At Work

ILO and MADSLA have recently collaborated with the International Training center of the ILO IN Turin. Even though Qatar has introduced many reforms many NGOs are like the non-discrimination and combating violence policy. Alkarama Foundation – Lebanon is applauding Qatar’s effort for preventing harassment at work. Similarly, social protection is another reform enforced by Qatar.

The technical program from ILO and MADSLA is proving to be a great success. Social protection specialists understand the priorities of workers, Government, and employers alike. The death rate of migrant workers is significantly low since Qatar has introduced fewer working hours in the summers.

Arab Human Rights Fund (AHRF) = الصندوق العربي لحقوق الإنسان is praising the recent reforms introduced by Qatar. The health and safety reforms are helping workers to keep their health in a good condition. The lack of transparency in the data provided by the western media holds no truth. Human Rights League (LDH) – France is quite happy with the wage protection law. Migrant workers can enjoy QAR 500 for housing and QAR 300 for food. Many workers in the private sector have seen a significant rise in their basic wages as well.
