When Ranbir Kapoor predicted Imran Khan's early retirement

Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan made their acting debuts a year apart. While Ranbir's debut film 'Saawariya' failed to perform well at the box office, Imran Khan's 'Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na' went on to become a fan favourite and a classic. Ranbir was in awe of Imran's performance and the success of the film and even called up the actor for a meeting. The duo appeared together on season 3 of Koffee With Karan where they spoke about the bond they share.  Ranbir on Imran Khan's debut Talking about the first time he heard about Imran Khan and his debut film, Ranbir said, "When Imran's 'Jaane Tu...' had released, I remember I was in Ooty shooting for 'Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani'. Post the premiere people were going gaga about this film and this boy. I was kind of eager and jealous as well. And I truly admire his work and I like the way he is, not just as an actor but even as a person he is very unaffected. He is not the typical filmy guy you meet, there is no facade. He is what he is and I think that is great I think that is a quality that will always remain and I don't think that will change in him also." Further, Kapoor spoke about their first meeting in person, "When 'Jaane Tu...' was released I sent him a message saying that I wanted to meet you and that I liked your work. We met at Taj Lands. I think at that time somebody offered us the same film at the same time and it was a solo film. So we happened to meet and through a common friend I got to know that we have the same script." "So we met and had a great conversation. We spoke about what his ideologies are, the kind of films he wants to do, the kind of vision he comes with as an actor. We discussed that and I found him really like-minded, who shares the same values, and notions about films and what we want to do with our careers. So we decided to produce a film together. We actually had 10 meetings. Genuine Draft Productions was the name we came up for the production house. "  Imran Khan praised Ranbir Kapoor Imran Khan also praised Ranbir on the show when Karan asked who he felt was a better actor among the two. "I do feel he is a better actor than me. I kind of stumbled into acting at the last minute. It was not my lifelong dream. It is something I am finding my way into. There are a lot of times I see him on screen and feel that I wish I could do that," he said.  In the episode, Ranbir also remarked at Imran's nature of leaving things at the peak. "He also seems like someone who at the peak of his career would leave it," said Ranbir to which Imran said, "You wish!". The two then break into a laugh.  Imran Khan was last seen in the film 'Katti Batti' in 2015 opposite Kangana Ranaut and then took a break from acting. The actor recently revealed that he is actively looking at coming back to the movies.

Triptii Dimri

Anurag Basu reacts to 'purity' remark following Triptii's exit from Aashiqui 3

Earlier this week, mid day reported that Triptii Dimri was out of the Kartik Aaryan-starrer Aashiqui 3, which was supposed to go on floors this year with Anurag Basu helming the project. The news came after Dimri had done look tests for the film and even performed for the mahurat shot. Since then, there have been rumours that the actor was dropped from the film as the makers felt she had become “too exposed” to be cast in the romantic film, which they apparently believed “demanded purity in demeanour from the female lead”. mid day reached out to Basu, who is set to begin another romantic film with Aaryan soon, for a comment on the rumour. The director set the record straight. He said, “That’s not true,” and added, “Triptii knows it too.” Anurag Basu The third instalment of Aashiqui, which is now indefinitely postponed, was produced by Bhushan Kumar. The T-Series head honcho is now producing the yet-untitled collaboration between Aaryan and Basu. The hunt for its female lead is underway, and it’s set to go on floors later this month or early February.  A source noted, “The rumours around Dimri’s departure also suggested that the makers saw no buzz around the actor post her biggest success, Animal [2023].” The makers apparently took into account the underwhelming box office result of her “so called” solo releases. Ironically, Dimri’s most recent success was T-Series’ Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, where she was the lead opposite Aaryan. Sources close to the development inform that Dimri has moved on to Vishal Bhardwaj’s Arjun Ustara, which was also supposed to star Aaryan. However, it is now being headlined by Shahid Kapoor. “The buzz around Triptii has been at an all time high since Animal’s success. That’s also what made her the sought after choice for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. After the romantic comedy Bad News [2024] and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video [2024], she was kicked about headlining an intense love story by Anurag. With her debut film, Laila Majnu [2018], becoming a success upon its re-release last year, there has been a demand to see her in a romance,” shared a source. Dimri was looking forward to the full fledged schedule of Aashiqui 3, before gearing up for the release of her Dharma Productions’ film, Dhadak 2, directed by Shazia Iqbal.

Ranveer Singh and Wamiqa Gabbi

Wamiqa Gabbi to play female lead opposite Ranveer Singh in Basil Joseph’s next?

It’s raining offers for Wamiqa Gabbi, who recently appeared in Baby John alongside Varun Dhawan. She has joined Adivi Sesh and Emraan Hashmi in the thriller G2 and will feature in Akshay Kumar’s Bhoot Bangla. The actor is also the frontrunner to join opposite Ranveer Singh in an upcoming superhero film directed by Basil Joseph, known for Minnal Murali. The project is rumoured to be a Bollywood adaptation of the iconic Indian superhero Shaktimaan.  Sources reveal, “She has been garnering attention for her versatile performances in Hindi and regional cinema and is also rumoured to be signing a Telugu project opposite Nani. Currently, it’s all dialogue, but if the film materialises, the pairing of Wamiqa and Ranveer in Basil’s film would add fresh energy to the project that has been in the works for five years now.” Basil Joseph While no official announcement has been made, insiders suggest the film is still in its early stages, with pre-production underway. Joseph, despite his limited proficiency in Hindi, has been conducting readings and meetings with Singh in Mumbai. “Once the script is completed and final dates are worked out, this will be finalised. [Until then], Ranveer is busy wrapping up Aditya Dhar’s spy film. He will shift focus on [the superhero film] only after March,” adds the source.

While some speculated that the bride is actor Anushka Shetty, there has been no confirmation. Last year, before the release of Kalki 2898 AD, similar rumours floated in the media. On the work front, Prabhas’ highly anticipated film, The Raja Saab, has been postponed. Owning his tag   Karan Johar surely knows how to grab attention, even for a simple outing. The filmmaker was spotted at a dinner meet with Shah Rukh Khan’s wife, producer Gauri Khan, wearing a T-shirt that read, “Nepo Baby”. The duo was later joined by Malaika Arora. Karan has long been trolled for giving star kids their big Bollywood breaks and promoting nepotism. After defending himself for years, he is now wearing the tag like he owns it. What a way to respond to the naysayers!   Celebrating small wins Boman Irani is on a high as his directorial debut, The Mehta Boys, opens the Indian Film Festival in Berlin. The film, starring Avinash Tiwary, Boman, Shreya Chaudhary, and Puja Sarup, tells a heart-touching story about a father-son bond and the nuances of their strained relationship as they find themselves compelled to spend 48 hours together. Speaking about the film, Avinash said, “It’s a matter of great honour to have our film play out to a mix of Indian and international audiences in Germany.” The Mehta Boys also received accolades at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival, where it won an award for its gripping story and outstanding performances. Slated to release on Prime Video soon, the film is written by Academy Award winner Alex Dinelaris Jr of Birdman and The Revenant fame. “At 35, I became a photographer; at 44, I became an actor; and at 65, I became a director and a writer,” Boman said on the red carpet at the festival, which will run for three days.  “There is a lot of conflict between fathers and sons. By the way, I just want to make it clear, I have a great relationship with my sons. However, there is always a change from the time a child [grows up]. There is a change in the relationship and a man feels he is not needed anymore. [Although], that’s his way of feeling that he is growing old. And that frustration shows out in The Mehta Boys,” Boman added.
