It's Shah Rukh Khan's birthday and how can SRKians not get a treat from the superstar? After delivering two blockbusters, he will return to the silver screen once again with Rajkumar Hirani's socio-drama, Dunki. On the occasion of Shah Rukh Khan birthday 2023, the first glimpse of the film was unveiled. Titled Dunki Drop 1, the makers introduced the characters.

Dunki is about a bunch of young people from Punjab who aspire to go to London. Hardy (Shah Rukh Khan) leads Manu (Taapsee Pannu), Sukhi (Vicky Kaushal), Buggu and Balli to fulfill their dreams. However, the journey isn't easy. Dunki Drop 1 is elevated, thanks to a soulful track crooned by Sonu Nigam.

Dunki is a Jio Studios, Red Chillies Entertainment and Rajkumar Hirani Films presentation. Rajkumar Hirani, Abhijaat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon have written the film. It is produced by Rajkumar and Gauri Khan.
The film is based on the concept of Donkey Flight where Indian immigrants take a particular route to the United Kingdom. The term is based on a Punjabi idiom meaning to hop from place to place.
During an Ask SRK session on X, Shah Rukh said, “#Dunki is all funny and emotional. It’s Raju sirs world mere bhai. Thoda sa action maine daal diya hai…pata nahi sir rahein na rakhein….woh editor bhi hain na."
Dunki will be clashing with Prabhas' action thriller, Salaar, on Christmas 2023. The Prashanth Neel directorial is releasing globally on December 21. Dismissing reports of postponing Dunki to avoid a clash with Salaar, the makers of the Shah Rukh-starrer confirmed that the release date is intact.
The film marks Shah Rukh and Rajkumar's maiden collaboration.
