Despite the ordeal


On Sunday, Jacqueline Fernandez shared an all smiles post with a cryptic caption after appearing before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Rs 200-crore money laundering case involving alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekar and wife Leena Maria Paul. Taking to her Instagram handle, the actor shared a picture and wrote, “Torn, but not damaged.” Chandrashekar reportedly informed the ED in front of Fernandez that he presented gifts worth crores to her. The investigation agency wanted to confront him with the actor to verify her earlier claim when she denied any wrongdoing.


India’s official entry to Oscars


PS Vinothraj’s Tamil film, Koozhangal, is India’s official entry to the 2022 Oscars. The 94th Academy Awards will be held on March 24 in Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre. The decision was announced over the weekend in Kolkata by veteran filmmaker Shaji N Karun who chaired the jury. “There’s a chance to hear this... and the Oscars goes to... two steps away from a dream-come-true moment in our lives,” posted Vinothraj. The film revolves around a youngster and how his relationship with his drunken and aggressive father drives him on a mission to reclaim his mother. Koozhangal, which has bagged multiple accolades at film festivals, features newcomers, Chellapandi and Karuththadaiyaan. It is produced by Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara. About 14 films, including Shoojit Sircar’s Sardar Udham and the Vidya Balan-starrer Sherni, were in contention.

Rajinikanth’s big day

Ahead of being conferred the country’s highest honour in the field of cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Rajinikanth remembered late director K Balachander. The South icon made his acting debut in his film Apoorva Raagangal (1975). “I never expected that I’d get the award. I’m sad that KB sir is not alive,” he said. The Thalaiva also announced daughter Soundarya’s voice-based app, Hoote, which he will launch today. He has lent his voice to it.

The farewell celebration

It’s curtains for Kyun Rishton Mein Katti Batti. The makers hosted a farewell bash on the set after wrapping up the finale episode, which airs on November 5. Lead actors, Neha Marda and Siddhaanth Vir Surryavanshi, who play Shubra and Kuldeep on the show, called it “one of the most memorable experiences of our lives, and the unit members are now family.” Arvind Babbal’s relationships saga went on air last December.

Over the weekend, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein actor Shireen Mirza tied the knot with businessman beau Hasan Sartaj in Jaipur. Several industry colleagues, including Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya, Aly Goni and Krishna Mukherjee attended the ceremony.

The lure of the digital world

After playing a cop in the web series, City of Dreams, Eijaz Khan is shooting for another digital venture. The untitled film is being shot in Vadodara. Details about the project are under wraps. The Bigg Boss 14 contestant has been vocal about exploring the OTT space for better and more opportunities for small screen actors and technicians. Khan is in no mood to return to the tube for now.

Esha Deol Takhtani posted a photo of her reflection in a mirror and captioned it, “Karva chauth has a lot more to it than the vermillion on your head or the fast or the tradition. It is the love, the feeling, the spirit of sacrifice and selflessness that I cherish. The feeling of being loved by someone and having someone special in my life.”

Back from her holiday in the Maldives, Mira Rajput Kapoor flaunted her tan while participating in the festivities at Sunita and Anil Kapoor’s Juhu home. Shahid Kapoor’s wife had applied mehndi on her hands a day earlier.

Sonali Bendre Behl considers traditions a bridge between the past, present and future. “I respect where they came from but never hesitated to give it my meaning. Karva chauth is one such festival. It has always been a celebration of family and friends,” she posted.

Happy fasting

Shilpa Shetty Kundra shared a picture of on Instagram and wrote, “Wishing you all a happy karva chauth and happy fasting, ladies. May you, and yours be blessed with health, protection and abundance always.” Over the weekend she jetted off to Alibaug with mother Sunanda and kids, Viaan and Samisha.
