17 December,2024 04:06 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentAs the country prepares for The Khan trio to finally come together on the big screen, Disney Films India released a new BTS video featuring Shah Rukh Khan where he discusses the advice and suggestions he gave how two young cubs, Aryan and AbRam. The two young Khans play pivotal roles in the Hindi version of the upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King, voicing Simba and young Mufasa. Watch as Shah Rukh Khan, humble as ever, talks about the importance of Aryan and AbRam finding their way as actors, remaining professional, and giving their best. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Walt Disney Studios India (@disneyfilmsindia) Shah Rukh Khan’s advice for his kids In a video shared on Instagram, Shah Rukh Khan says, “I have been working in films for so many years. If I try to explain to my kids mathematics it would be at par like 'Ok my father is trying to teach me something that he knows better'. But since I work in the acting field, whatever I say seems like it has been set in stone. 'Oh he knows it, so this is how we need to do'. And an actor should find his voice. So I don't advise my kids to do anything, provide suggestions maybe. In both films, I never told them, 'You need to say this line like this'.” He adds, “I have my way of speaking and saying dialogues, mannerisms, and style. I don't impose that. I asked them to speak Hindi fluently. If they could sync it would be better, and said that no matter how many takes you've been asked for, do it. Children should be left alone as far as acting is concerned.” About Mufasa: The Lion King The film explores Mufasa's journey from an orphaned cub to his prominence as a monarch. Along the way, viewers discover more about his complicated connection with his brother Taka, who would later become the infamous Scar. The poignant tale, which centres on Kiara, Simba, and Nala's curious daughter, is told through Rafiki's narrative. Timon and Pumbaa, of course, contribute their unique sense of humour. Besides the Khans, other voices include Makarand Deshpande as Rafiki, Sanjay Mishra as Pumbaa, Shreyas Talpade as Timon, and Meiyang Chang as Taka.

17 December,2024 03:41 PM IST | Mumbai | Divya KhuranaIt may have been 20 years since the release of the cult classic, Swades, but, filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker feels it was only yesterday that he launched his production house with the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer. Arguably, Gowariker’s perception may not be completely flawed, given that the patriotic offering that holds a mirror to society, has been kept alive in the minds of people several years after it left cinema halls. The filmmaker understands why Swades—a film that deals with the themes of class and caste divide—has lived far beyond its years. “It gives us the status quo; the point zero. It [shows us] where we need to hit reset. When people tell me that Swades continues to be appreciated, it makes me happy and sad. I am happy that the work is being appreciated, but sad because it implies that nothing has changed. I don’t know if matters have become worse. The divide between urban and rural [India] has increased. We look at the technological [advancement] in cities and think we are progressing. But, it is a mirage. Of course, the heartland also has all the amenities. But have we progressed in our way of thinking? I don’t think so. The change is still happening. And more work needs to be done on that front,” he explains. In today's climate when a film asking difficult social questions is often met with resistance, will it be easy to make a Swades? "It wouldn't be easy but it wouldn't be difficult either. I think you will have to be more cautious. By that I don't mean the restriction the defeat of a filmmaker, that you didn't make it with your full freedom. You can still make it with your full freedom, but you can do a certain self censorship. You have to understand how the film will be perceived in today's climate. If I make Swades today, I won't change a thing, also becasue it's still relevant. Maybe I would add aspects of the digital era and how that is affecting the surroundings," he says. Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan Meanwhile, Gowariker has a lot of work on his plate too. As his production house crosses the milestone mark, he is eager to turn his attention to new ventures. Sure, venturing into web shows may seem to be the most natural progression in this day and age, but the filmmaker is also keen to explore other avenues. “We want to also make television shows, documentaries and audiobooks. We want to cover the entire entertainment gamut. We are developing stories in the OTT space, which is a great addition to our business, because my films are long, and if I have a long story to tell, I can do so in the form of a web series.” However, fans of the filmmaker who have been eager to watch his opulent productions play out on the big screen need not be disappointed. “I have finished my [movie] script. We are currently casting for it,” says the director, who last helmed the 2019 historical, Panipat. Ask him if he intends to reunite with his friends and collaborators, including Shah Rukh, Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan, all of whom Gowariker has delivered memorable films with, and he says, “[Only] if I have the right script.” He adds, “The theme has to come to me first. [I will approach them] if they suit the part. All three of them have one common trait—the willingness to experiment within the set boundaries of mainstream entertainment. That is why Dangal, Dear Zindagi and Super 30 [were successful]. They are willing to put themselves out of their comfort zone for a film, but, it needs to have the structure of a mainstream movie.”

17 December,2024 02:46 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentBollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha has strongly reacted to Shaktimaan actor Mukesh Khanna's criticism on her upbringing while referring to her being unable to answer a question on 'Ramayan' on Kaun Banega Crorepati 11 in 2019. Khanna blamed Shatrughan Sinha's upbringing which led to Sonakshi not correctly answering the question on Ramayan. The actress was asked for whom did Lord Hanuman bring Sanjeevani booti in the Ramayana, but she couldn't answer correctly. Sonakshi Sinha hits back at Mukesh Khanna The actress penned a long note on her Instagram stories responding to Khanna's statement against her father and her upbringing. She wrote, "Dear Sir, Mukesh Khanna ji ...I recently read a statement you made saying that it's my father's fault I did not answer a question about the Ramayana correctly on a show I attended many, many years back. Firstly let me remind you there were two women on the hot seat that day who did not know the answer to the same question, but you choose to keep taking my name, and only my name, for reasons which are quite obvious." She further revealed why she was unable to answer the question on Ramayan while on the hot seat. "Yes, I may have blanked out that day, a human tendency, and forgotten who the sanjeevani booti was brought for, but clearly, you have also forgotten some of the lessons of forgive and forget taught by Lord Ram himself... if Lord Ram can forgive Manthara, if he can forgive Kaikeyi... if he can even forgive Ravan after the great battle was done, surely you can let go of this extremely small thing in comparison.. not that I need your forgiveness. But yes, I definitely need you to forget and stop bringing up the same incident time and again to be back in the news at the expense of me and my family." The actress also warned Khanna against making such 'distasteful statements'. "And lastly, the next time you decide to say anything about the values my father has instilled in me... please remember it's because of those values that I have only said what I said, very respectfully, after you decided to make some distasteful statements about my upbringing. I wish you well, thanks and regards, Sonakshi Sinha," concluded her statement. What Mukesh Khanna said about Sonakshi and Shatrughan Sinha In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Mukesh Khanna talked about how today's generation needs Shaktimaan to guide them. “I think kids today need the guidance of Shaktimaan more than the kids of the 1970s. Today’s kids are being sidetracked by the internet. They roam around with girlfriends and boyfriends, and eventually, they won’t even remember their grandparents’ names. One girl couldn’t even answer for whom God Hanuman brought the Sanjeevani booti.” When he was asked if he was referring to Sonakshi, he agreed and said, "Yes, and this happened despite her being the daughter of Shatrughan Sinha. Her brothers' name are Luv and Kush. People were angry that Sonakshi didn’t know this, but I would say it’s not her fault—it’s her father’s fault. Why didn’t they teach their children this? Why did they become so modern? If I were Shaktimaan today, I would make kids sit down and teach them about Indian culture and Sanatan Dharma.”

But, when I was supposed to start looking for funds, I had to return to India for work. Then, I never found the opportunity to make that film there,” Goswami recalls, adding that she is eager to give wings to her directorial dreams after being made aware of her talent by the directors she has worked with. “The directors I have worked with in the last eight years have told me I should direct, even though they never knew I wanted to. It is my calling. I would be a better director than an actor. It was always part of the plan. I had the dream of inhabiting characters, and also creating a canvas. I have a [good] visual sense and love taking photographs. I enjoy the audiovisual space,” says Goswami, who features in the Friday release, Despatch, directed by Kanu Behl. It tells you so much about the equation. I like things that are not expressed through words.”
