The 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which kicked off over the weekend in Goa, apologised for an incorrect information on its website, where the synopsis of the Salman Khan-franchise Dabangg was mistakenly put in the description of Satyajit Ray’s classic Sonar Kella (1974). The festival is celebrating the legendary filmmaker by screening his classics.

We would like to apologise for the incorrect information of the film "Sonar Kella" mentioned in the IFFI Film Guide. It was inadvertent and the same has been duly rectified. Inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.

IFFI’s official website mentioned that Sonar Kella is backed by actor-producer Arbaaz Khan. In its synopsis, it was written that Sonar Kella is about ‘Chulbul Pandey, a jovial, fearless, but corrupt cop who has a troubled relationship with his half-brother Makkhi and father’. Sonar Kella, an adaptation of a mystery novel of the same name, features late legendary Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee.
Speaking of IFFI, the first edition of the festival was held in Mumbai from January 24 to February 1, 1952. This edition had 23 countries including the US participating, and had 40 feature films and about a hundred short films. The Indian entries for the festival were Awara (Hindi), Patala Bhairavi (Telugu), Amar Bhoopali (Marathi), and Babla (Bengali).
