Key Highlights

  2. The actor was paired with Sanjay Dutt on the show
  3. Shetty spoke about his fitness levels and friendship with Sanjay Dutt

Suniel Shetty and Sanjay Dutt were last seen sharing screen in the 2010 comedy film 'No Problem'. Over a decade later, the two actors who are also great friends off screen came together for an episode of 'Star Vs Food Survival' on discovery+. Suniel Shetty and Sanjay Dutt along with host chef Ranveer Brar cooked a meal in the midst of the picturesque Coorg while battling the challenges that nature has to offer.

In an interview with mid-day.com while talking about what made him sign up for the challenge, Shetty said, "I was most happy about two lions getting to go to the jungle, both Leos, and food and the challenges. The challenges are very genuine because we are not 21 anymore. It tested if we could stay fit physically, bear the brunt of everything and at the same time our relationship. We share an unbelievable relationship which shows on the screen. Sanju (Sanjay Dutt) is another level entertainer when it comes to his wise cracks and one liners. We just get along like a house of fire."

"Ranveer was spared because he was the only one other than us, otherwise we are a dangerous combination. But we wanted food also and he is the only one who could have provided us with the food after a tough day nahi toh mar jaate humlog (or else we would have starved to death)," the actor said with a humourous tone.

When asked what seemed more like a challenge, cooking in the wild of dealing with Sanjay Dutt, the actor quickly picks the latter. "Dealing with Sanjay Dutt, his language and his stories. He doesn't know what he says; his one liners, his gaaliyas (abuses)."

"You also realise (in such shows) your grammar is not up to the mark. When you are not given lines, it becomes very difficult. But it is unbelievable fun. It was comedy to another level. Both us are very macho when we walk and we talk about swag, but yaha toh band baj gayi, buddhapa aisa dikh kar aagaya (But we had a tough time and our old age was reflecting). It was difficult but not that much but it was age that was challenging, more than the terrain," the actor added.

While the 62-year-old is always lauded for maintaining himself, he reveals that show gave a reality check on their fitness level. "I got to see where I stood when it comes to physical fitness, whether we could survive in the jungle, identify local produce that can be used in cooking. There were leeches, snakes, constant biting of bugs, and no mobiles," he said talking about the new experience he had.

"At the end of it all you realise mental health is so important and how important it is to do this on a regular basis. Off course, I have the habit of going onto the mountains and biking, off roading, but this was a completely different exercise because we are in the thick of the jungle and it wasn't easy, physically nor for us nor for the crew," he added.

'Star Vs Food Survival' will premiere 9th October 2023 onwards on discovery+ and Discovery Channel.
