Call it a publicity stunt or plain idiocy, quite a few people have dragged celebrities to the courtroom for the weirdest “offences”

When Hollywood stars were sued for bizarre reasons

JLo, Elvis Presley, Mila Kunis, Justin Bieber

If recent reports are to be believed, Jennifer Lopez might face one month to two years in prison. Reason? Apparently, the singer has the power to disturb law and order. JLo performed in Morocco on May 29, which was broadcast on the state-owned channel 2M. The show comprised her signature moves and her attire, as expected, accentuated her assets.

This, however, did not go down well with the Moroccan authorities who in response to Lopez’s sizzling show, filed a lawsuit against her because she “disturbed public order and tarnished women’s honour and respect”. Moroccan Prime Minister, Abdelilah Benkirane, has also ordered an inquiry against the broadcasters as the “sexually suggestive” content violated the nation’s audiovisual law. Well, we really don’t know what they were expecting considering these sexy moves are synonymous with JLo. We tell you about similarly bizarre lawsuits against celebrities:

Sacha Baron Cohen

Backfired
Sacha Baron Cohen got sued for $25,000 by a woman who claimed that she was left confined to a wheelchair after a comedy stunt executed by the actor for his film Bruno allegedly went wrong. Richelle Olson said she was ‘attacked’ by Bruno — the fashion critic alter ego of British comedian Cohen — at a Bingo hall in the US in 2007 and was left with serious injuries. She insisted the makers said that Bruno was a celebrity and would come to announce numbers at a charity bingo game she ran for the elderly. “Bruno instead arrived in an extreme, outrageous, offensive caricature of a gay man dressed in sexually revealing clothing with an Austrian accent,” she said. The makers, however, had enough CCTV footage to prove the woman wrong. Olson not only lost the case, but was also forced to pay Cohen’s legal fees, which came to $17,000. Ouch.

Elvis Presley

In an afterlife
Seems like even death cannot save you from bizarre lawsuits. Representatives of Elvis Presley’s estate were shocked when a man from Fort Worth sued them for lying about the legend being dead. The man in question had ‘complete’ evidence that the King of Rock n Roll had faked his death. He claimed to have had regular telephonic conversations with Elvis for many years. Needless to say, the case was officially dismissed.

Mila Kunis

Chick that
This will crack you up. In April this year, Mila Kunis was sued for stealing chicken from a childhood friend Kristina Karo. The latter claimed that the two grew up together in Ukraine and played with Karo’s pet chicken named Doggie who they loved immensely. According to the lawsuit, Kunis confessed to Karo about stealing the chicken saying, “Kristina, you can have any other chicken as a pet, you have a whole chicken farm.” Karo claimed to have become an emotional wreck post the incident and required therapy to get over Doggie’s disappearance. She then sued the actress for $5,000 dollars to cover her therapy charges and as compensation for the emotional trauma of losing a chicken as a young child.

Justin Bieber

To ear is human
In 2012, Stacey Wilson Betts, mother of a teen fan, sued Bieber for a whopping $9.23 million in damages. Her claim: Bieber damaged her ears. According to Betts, while the initial screaming in the arena was bad enough, Bieber made it much worse when he was pulled into the crowd in a ‘heart-shaped aluminum/steel gondola’ as part of the show. She added that the singer  also created a ‘wave-like effect of screaming’ by pointing at his fans who were spread across the arena. This resulted in her suffering from hearing loss, tinnitus and hyperacusis in both ears. A year later, the lawsuit was settled after the woman filed documents asking the court to dismiss her case.
