With companies leveraging artistes’ off-screen camaraderie for the making of music videos, it was only a matter of time before the contestants of one of television’s most successful reality shows, Bigg Boss, made their way to one. Bollywood singer Akasa Singh, who featured on the latest edition of the show, joined hands with co-contestant Karan Kundra for the track Kamle, a love story showcasing a marriage of two friends.

“I’ve known Karan for a while. He would often tell me that we should do a video together. This song was originally made for a female singer, but when we started working on it, I realised there was scope to [rope] in Karan for it. Since we share a bond, it was apt to depict our friendship via this storyline,” says Singh, adding that while Kamle was originally made for a film, the makers deemed it suitable for an independent single since “it turned out to be quite pretty”.

While the Salman Khan-hosted show has exposed her to a wider audience, Singh doesn’t believe that her stint was successful enough to bring about noticeable change in her career. “I don’t think I was meant for the show, because it is suited for those who are versed with the world, and know how to grab attention. I have never known how to do that. So, it’s not like my life has changed after it. I have always been the face of my music, and my brand. It is something I knew I wanted while growing up. I was always comfortable before the camera, so, that is an advantage. I have always been the protagonist of my life. I am glad that a lot of other singers are doing it too.”

Up next for her is a song with another Bigg Boss contestant, Pratik Sehajpal. Given that rumours of the duo being romantically linked hit headlines, Singh says their collaboration was warranted.
