In the wise words of American cooking legend Julia Child, “No one is born a great cook; one learns by doing.” Cooking is both art and science. Last year saw the mushrooming of home chefs. Some learnt by force, some by choice, and some were motivated by a mix of both. From biryani to sourdough bread, social media was flooded with exquisite homemade creations. If you would like to take your cooking or baking to the next level, we have curated a wide range of culinary workshops this weekend to help you on your way. So, put on your chef’s hat and get ready to conjure some kitchen magic.

Bring in some French sweetness

Mumbai's dessert fans will have surely devoured the delectable macarons from Le 15 Pâtisserie and Café. Learning how to make this delicate pastry at home will give you a greater appreciation of them. Yes, the colourful sweets can be made at home and chef Pooja Dhingra, the baker who introduced the macaron revolution in the city some years ago, will herself demonstrate how to do this. In a virtual session, she will show you how to create the macaron shell, dark chocolate ganache and coffee ganache. This class features eggs.

Bake some yummy savouries

Most people love garlic breadsticks, especially cheese-loaded ones. But ordering them often from a restaurant can prove to be expensive. Instead of burning a hole in your pocket, learn to bake these savouries at home. The plan for this class by Baker's Bag includes cheesy garlic breadsticks, pull apart cheese garlic bread, jalapeño and cheese dough balls, and potato and cheese dough balls. You will learn to bake them from scratch and without eggs. This class is open for both kids and adults. So, you can make this workshop a fun weekend family activity as well.

Make ice-cream for a cause

This workshop is special for quite a few reasons. Firstly, the proceeds from this class will be donated to ‘Parichay Abhigyan Society’, a Delhi-based NGO which supports the education of the children of migrant workers. Secondly, the instructor of this class is an adorable 10-year-old. Finally, you will learn to make ice-cream at home. The event is titled ‘IceCream House by Naisha’. The little masterchef will not only teach you how to make yummy ice-creams but also share her expert knowledge about the frozen dessert.

Channel your inner chef

Reema’s ‘Swad’ cooking classes which begin this weekend onwards promise to teach participants to make popular and scrumptious dishes at home. Saturday she starts with an eggless cake baking and frosting class. Next on the list is a class to learn delicious vegetarian sizzlers. One class is dedicated to mouth-watering chaats (think bhelpuri, sevpuri etc) and sandwiches. She will also conduct a class on cake decoration, where she will teach how to make fondant from scratch and other tricks to make your cakes look attractive.

Go vegan in the kitchen

Nutritionist and mental health professional Dr. Umesh Wadhavani will conduct an interactive session on the vegan diet. The event note states that the purpose of this workshop is not to preach that everyone quit dairy and meat but to learn more about the diet. This is perfect for people who want to learn about veganism and for those who are already following it. Apart from vegan recipes, Wadhavani will also talk about vegan diet: pros and cons, the limitations of the diet, and how to overcome them.
