This weekend, explore the wacky side of life along with 10 quirky brands at the Bliss Quirk Carnival. The Guide gives you a dekko

Even as the rules of the world forces one to toe the line it's the quirks that actually add a dash of spice to life. In an attempt to celebrate all things quirky, Bliss has organised a Quirk Carnival where 10 quirky brands will show off their wackier creations. "Since the monsoon has put a stop to our outdoor activities, we wanted to jazz up things with this carnival. We have invited 10 city-based designers to move in and display their wares on the ground floor. This will be a departure from our original collections that were on display till now so visitors get to chance upon a new store," explains Mallika Desai Thakker, owner of Bliss. The carnival will focus on lifestyle products with select garments and apparel also on sale.

The carnival will mark BombayMerch's first-ever exhibition of licensed posters and prints featuring Hollywood actresses, singers, popular comic strips and superheroes including Batman and Spiderman. PoppadumArt, which has a bias towards hand painting on glass surfaces, will entice you with their wall hangings, vases, painted bottles, ashtrays, trays and coasters. One of their hilarious bottle designs depict Ravana's dilemma of too many heads to drink wine from (Kis Mooh Se Piyoon?).

Brand Paperwalla thrives on irony and their USP is making 3D wall art featuring The Beatles and Rajnikant among others by using paper cutouts. They also make clocks, which use irony as a style statement. Sample this: one of their creations show Charlie Chaplin on a clock with an implied tagline of being a timeless classic that shows time.

Some of the other participants include V Heart Art with their bookends, chest of drawers and hooks while Matsya will offer pencil tops, finger puppets, hand-painted heena on papier-mache and wall frames. Masaya and Candles n More will team up to bring you bead jewellery and bags as well as candles shaped like Buddha while you can buy coasters and lamps from The Big Bag Theory. Princesse K's range includes laptop bags and messenger bags while QuirkBox will bring you shorts and cushion covers and Happily Unmarried's coasters, wall clocks and key chain holders will make you generously loosen your purse strings.
