A 24-year-old woman, Heena Rihan Khan, was taken into custody in Mumbai after being found in possession of a country-made pistol, a revolver, and two bullets, according to a police spokesperson on Sunday. The arrest came as a result of a tip-off, and ongoing efforts are being made to uncover more details regarding the illegal arms and ammunition smuggling network, stated a report in PTI.

According to the report, the accused, Heena Rihan Khan has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Maharashtra Police Act, and the Arms Act. The investigation into this case is currently underway to identify any potential connections to criminal activities.

Matricide in Wadala

A dismembered and partially burned woman's body, concealed within a gunny bag was found in Wadala's BPT colony on October 27. The deceased woman's son has been held by cops on suspicions of matricide, entwined with disputes over property. Authorities suspected that the body had been mutilated before being subjected to fire. The woman displayed injuries to her head and back, indicative of a violent and horrific end.

A police official previously told mid-day.com, "Initial suspicions pointed to the alleged assailant residing within close proximity, as their familiarity with secluded areas within BPT seemed apparent. However, our pursuit was hampered by the absence of any leads, given the victim's unidentified status."

The deceased woman, estimated to be in her 70s, served as a maid in the neighbouring area. Her unexpected three-day absence from her work prompted concern among her employers, compelling them to reach out to her relatives.

Upon receiving the alert, the concerned relatives swiftly engaged the Wadala police station, initiating a comprehensive investigation. This meticulous inquiry eventually led to the shocking revelation that the victim's son is suspected of perpetrating her murder within the backdrop of property-related disputes.

The Wadala police have taken the son into custody, and the investigation is actively progressing.

Meanwhile, in another incident from Thane, a man was arrested for allegedly beating a relative to death and injuring her minor son during a dispute. The suspect, identified as Sanju Vilas Lokhande, aged 30, was arrested during the early hours of Sunday. He is facing charges under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempted murder) of the Indian Penal Code, according to Thane Police.
