Two men arrived on a motorbike, one wearing a helmet and the other a mask, and forcibly entered the jewellery shop. The robbers threatened Sanghvi at gunpoint and attacked him with the butt of the weapon when he resisted, leaving him injured.
The assailants managed to break into the shop’s safe and escape with 50 tolas of gold, worth an estimated Rs 40 lakh. Police have confirmed that the stolen gold was contained in 15 to 20 jewellery boxes.
Sanghvi was rushed to Cardinal Gracious Hospital in Vasai for treatment, and his condition is reported to be stable. The shop, managed by Ratanlalji and his son, Manish Sanghvi, was left in the elder Sanghvi’s care as Manish was away on work.
Six crime branch teams have been deployed by Vasai police to track down the culprits. CCTV footage from the shop and surrounding areas is being examined as part of the investigation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Pournima Shringi-Chougule, assured the public that swift action will be taken to apprehend the robbers. The police are also working on leads based on witness accounts and motorbike descriptions.
Abhilesh Sanghvi, Ratanlalji’s son, stated that the family is cooperating fully with the police and is hopeful for a quick resolution. This incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting calls for increased security measures in the area.
