Two months after the Deonar Police found the mutilated remains of a middle-aged woman stuffed in two travelling bags, they are still decomposing at the Rajawadi Post-mortem Centre. They found the remains in the creek near Indian Oil Nagar in Mankhurd on December 15, just a few days after the high profile double murder of artist Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Harish Bhambhani.

Though the cops have not found any clue about her identity despite recording over 100 statements, checking the luggage 14 times and conducting DNA tests four times, they still haven’t disposed of the remains. The mandatory period for keeping the body is 15 days.

While accepting that they haven’t been able to make headway in the case, Deonar police officers also said they would have to dispose of the remains now since they already have the DNA results, her sketch and belongings.

“We will now have to dispose of the body and we will do it soon,” said police inspector Chetan Kakade.

When the police had found the body, the woman’s torso and legs were stuffed in one bag, while her hands were in a separate bag. Also, forensic experts had said the woman, who is believed to be 30-40 years old, could have died due to massive throat injury.

Her face was beyond recognition as it was in the water for around 3-5 days before being found.

She had a silver ring on and her hair was braided on side and combed on the other. The post-mortem also showed signs of childbirth, added forensic experts.
