The DB Marg police have arrested two people for forcing a 20-year-old Bangladeshi woman into prostitution. According to the complaint filed by the victim, she had come to Mumbai with her baby to earn a living, but was forced into prostitution by the accused. She said the men threatened to hand her over to the police citing her Bangladeshi nationality. After months of torture, she mustered the courage to register a complaint at DB Marg police station.

One of the three accused remains absconding. As per the police, the 20-year-old is a native of Jamalpur village, Jaipur Hat district of Bangladesh. She was married at 14 and had a baby at 16. Abandoned by her husband, the woman was left to fend for herself and her baby. Failing to find work in Dhaka, she came into to Kolkata with the help of some women.

There, she was forced into flesh trade. She escaped after two years and came to Mumbai to find work. In the city, she met a broker named Sonu Kumar, who allegedly kept her in a room in Nagpada and tortured her for several months. Finally, on December 9, the victim approached the police.

A DB Marg police official said, “As soon as the complaint was received, we arrested Ravindra Kumar Yadav, 30, and Ashok Pito, 36. The third accused named Sonu Kumar is absconding, but the hunt is on. Both the accused arrested in this case are prostitute brokers.”
