Three days after two sons of Tilak Nagar police station head constable Anil Gamre died in a hit-and-run case in Navi Mumbai, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh ordered Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Suresh Mengde to investigate the matter. The cops have also found two alcohol bottles inside the Mercedes car involved in the incident and they suspect that accused Rohan Abbott was driving drunk. The family of the deceased has sought the arrest of Abbott’s friend, who was in the car at the time.

Gamre has alleged that after the accident, one of his sons Akshay was alive but in a hurry to escape from the spot, the accused dragged him for about 200 metres and crushed him near a tree.

DCP Mengde said, “Our team reached the spot within 20 minutes when Akshay was alive. We rushed him to NMMC hospital where he died during treatment. The accused had escaped by then.”

“On searching the car we also found two sealed alcohol bottles. We did proper panchnama and when we were planning to arrest Abbott on Monday, he surrendered. We have collected his blood samples and sent them for tests. We are investigating the matter and all allegations are false. We are not trying to save the accused,” he added.

Mengde said, “Akshay was alive. If the accused had taken him to the hospital on time, he could have been saved.” Gamre said, “The cops told us that they found four to five alcohol bottles in the car. Some of them were open. We demand a proper investigation in the matter.”
