Police have filed a FIR against 15 people for allegedly disrupting development on a government Dedicated Freight Corridor project in Thane district, Maharashtra, according to an official on Sunday.

According to a Narpoli police officer, the event occurred on June 13 in Bhiwandi as workers were constructing pillars for a flyover connecting a railway crossing between Owli village road and the freight corridor, the PTI report stated.

Per the PTI report, villagers with no claim to the land illegally invaded the government building, formed an unlawful assembly, hindered a piece of earth-excavating equipment and halted operations. They also threatened the workers on the site.

Following a complaint from a project representative, a case was filed on Friday against 15 people, four of whom were women. They have been charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servants from carrying out their duties), 341 (wrongful restraint), 141, 143, 149 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation), the PTI report added.

Meanwhile, in another incident from Thane, an auto-rickshaw driver has been charged with allegedly a 39-year-old lady who was riding in his vehicle, police said. On June 13, per the PTI report, the woman boarded an auto-rickshaw from Kalyan Railway Station to her Waldhuni apartment.

When she was paying the fare, the driver allegedly grabbed her hand and abused and threatened her, an official from MFC police official told the news agency and added that the woman later filed a complaint leading to the registration of an FIR against the driver on Friday under relevant Indian Penal Code sections.

In Mumbai, the Crime Branch Control of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) discovered a butter and ghee adulteration racket in the city and confiscated items worth more than Rs 1.2 lakh.  According to the police, the action was taken in response to a tip, and a raid was carried out at a business in the Nanabhai Building in Chira Bazaar, which is under the jurisdiction of the LT Marg Police Station in south Mumbai.

The police stated they discovered two suspects engaged in the adulteration of popular ghee brands. The team seized a substantial amount of adulterated ghee and related materials from the spot, said the official.
