Father says college is trying to cover up events that led to the student's suicide

A week after a second-year student of a reputed law college committed suicide due to alleged ragging, college authorities issued a statement that no ragging had taken place. The student's father is livid. "The college's report is complete hogwash," he said.

48 hours
On January 27, the institute appointed a fact-finding committee comprising the class teacher, principal and one senior professor and promised to submit the report in 48 hours. The committee missed the deadline and submitted the report on Tuesday. The father, a constable with the Ahmednagar police station said, "l had hoped that they would appoint an impartial committee to probe the incident. All they have done is tried to cover up the incident. My son's complaints to his teacher about the ragging were dismissed. There is no truth in the report."

However, when MiD DAY contacted the college authorities, they denied having any knowledge of the alleged ragging complaint. "We cannot divulge details as they areu00a0 confidential. We have submitted a copy of the report to the vice chancellor of Pune University and the joint director of the Education Department." The Rahuri police are investigating the case. Ten students have been booked by the police so far but no one has been traced.
