Saroja V, working with Sun Microsystems was going to the bank to deposit cash when the incident occurred.
According to Saroja, while she was walking towards the bank, the duo came in a Yamaha bike, snatched the cover she was carrying and sped away.
Saroja raised an alarm following which a car and a Pulsar motorcycle rider tried to chase the muggers, but they managed to escape.
The passers-by remained mute spectators, while the duo zoomed away on the bike and the car and Pulsar rider could not catch up with them.u00a0
This incident was not an isolated case as three cases of mugging occurred in Ashok Nagar police station limits.
According to the police, last week two mugging incidents occurred on Residency Road.
City police commissioner S M Bidari directed the police to step up security along with compulsory Naakabandi (check points) during the night.
This will help the police to keep a tab on crime, especially incidents of mugging in the city.
The figures
Seventy-seven robberies were reported in July 2008, as against 48 in the same month in 2007. Over 160 cases of burglary were filed in July this year; it was 116 in the same month last year. As for thefts, 918 were reported in July 2008 and 684 in July 2007.
